For address registration (Anmeldung) and other administrative procedures, Frankfurt has eleven registration offices. Since August 2024, the Anmeldung can also be completed entirely online via wohnsitzanmeldung.de.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR THE ANMELDUNG?
Passport or ID card, completed registration form (Anmeldeformular) and the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation) from your landlord. Non-EU citizens also need their visa or residence permit.
CAN I REGISTER ONLINE IN FRANKFURT?
Yes. Since August 2024, address registration in Frankfurt is available entirely online via wohnsitzanmeldung.de. This is a significant advantage over many other German cities.
DO I NEED TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
Yes, for an in-person visit an appointment must be booked through the city of Frankfurt's online booking portal. Appointments are often booked out several weeks in advance. The online registration via wohnsitzanmeldung.de is frequently the faster option.
HOW QUICKLY MUST I REGISTER?
Within 14 days of moving in. Late registration can result in a fine.
WHAT IS THE WOHNUNGSGEBERBESTÄTIGUNG?
A form that your landlord fills out and signs, confirming that you have moved into the apartment. Without this document you cannot complete your Anmeldung. All professional landlords on FARAWAYHOME provide it as standard.
WHICH REGISTRATION OFFICE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
You can register at any office in Frankfurt, regardless of your district. The Central Office at Zeil 3 is the easiest to reach but also has the longest waiting times for appointments. Smaller branch offices often have faster availability.
WILL I RECEIVE MY CONFIRMATION IMMEDIATELY?
Yes, when registering in person you receive the Meldebescheinigung (registration certificate) on the spot. For online registration it is sent by post.
WHY IS THE ANMELDUNG SO IMPORTANT?
The Anmeldung is a prerequisite for virtually everything in Germany: bank account, tax ID, health insurance, residence permit, employment contract and vehicle registration.
